Fluid mud of large volume is transferred to drilling bit by high pressure in the oil drilling and exploration works. Drilling hose, also called rotary & vibrator hose, is used as flexible connection in the mud transfer system. Drilling hose is mainly installed between standpipe and swivel. So drilling hose works in the environment of very high pressure and large temperature range.

Drilling hose is usually composed of three parts: tube, reinforcement and cover. The tube is made from resistant to chemical fluids, oil and water synthetic rubber. Reinforcement is made from braided fabrics and high tensile steel wires, making it work well in the high pressure environment. The cover is made from high quality synthetic rubber which is resistant to oil, abrasion, weather and ozone.

Drilling hose can be used in many application areas, and it can be divided into eight kinds according to its applications: fireproof BOP hose, cement hose, choke & kill line hose, jumper hose, vibrator hose, mud hose, motion compensator hose and decoking hose. Fireproof BOP hose is resistant to fire, so it is mainly used in crisis working conditions. And it is also used to control hydraulic pressure of BOP in the drilling process.

Cement hose is used to carry humid sand and concrete in the environment of very high pressure in some industries, such as oil & gas, petroleum and so on.

Choke & kill line hose is often installed between standpipe and the swivel or between pump and standpipe as flexible connection.

Jumper hose is used to supply consecutive flow around the flex/ball joint. And it is also used to accommodate the angular motion at the flex/ball joint.

Vibrator hose can be used to reduce the vibration of the whole system to some certain.

Mud hose is used as flexible connection between mud pump and mud standpipe to transfer high pressure drilling mud on the drilling floor.

Motion compensator hose is used to stabilize the drilling rig and the pump equipment. It can make the whole system run smoothly.

Decoking hose is mainly used to unload the coke from silos which is used to store coke.

• The working pressure of drilling hose is designed based on the maximum working pressure of drilling machine. The minimum burst pressure of drilling hose is 2.5 times as high as the working pressure. Therefore, even though the pump breaks down, the drilling hose will not burst.
• The tube of drilling hose is made from nitrile rubber, which can prevent the oil-based mud from permeating out of hose leading to the hose damage in the process of conveying the oil-based mud.
